I should’ve wrote this blog many, many weeks ago.. it didn’t happen, but here I am today.. yaya! So where did we leave off? Ah, yes… I received an amazing blessing the end of last year that gave me the opportunity to be back in the studio! That took place on Jan 2, 2013. It was very exciting to be back there so soon!! Jason played keys for the songs ” Run Out of Time” and ” Surround Me”. It’s absolutely thrilling to be working on new material with musicians who truly care about where I want to go as [...]
Being in the studio with Steve and Jason again was amazing! I have some video clips to share with you, but I need to sit down to edit, and make ‘em look all cool LOL We laid the foundation for 2 songs “Maggie” and “So long, farewell, good-bye” . After just a few hours, it was so exciting to see my ‘babies’ grow After the session ended I mentioned to Steve to let me know when he had another evening spot open with Jason. He told me that WORD/Warner Music Group (the record label) will be in studio on January 2-so [...]
I have been wanting to get back in the studio for a bit now, hence why I took the opportunity a few months back for free studio time at the Art Institute. After that wrapped up, one of the students offered more studio time beginning in January. I was floored thinking this could be the start of my new project which I had this concept/vision of for over a year now! So I eagerly brought the files from the Art Institute to my previous engineer (Steve Dady) who helped produce my first project, “Sip. Swallow. Digest.” to make sure they [...]
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church…a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain [...]
Soooo… 3 songs were forwarded on-! that news in itself is exciting!! BUT just because that happens doesn’t mean that the company will be interested.. it basically means the middle man (TAXI) believes that material fits. A day later I was contacted by Frank. He wrote that he was very interested in the 3 songs he received from TAXI, and was wondering if I had more material…and the rest went a little something like this: (PS- CLICK THE PICTURE TO MAKE IT BIGGER SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ IT
I’m a member of TAXI- a company that is the liaison between the independent artist (me!) and music supervisors for film, tv & labels. I pay a yearly fee to be a member so that I can receive ads that may fit my music being sent to these supervisors. I put myself and my dwindling music bank account into action and just a few weeks ago I had 3 songs forwarded!!! Which is a big deal!!! I spent mostly all year getting my songs (submissions) rejected. So when I got 3 forwarded it felt SO amazing!! Not only were they forwarded but [...]
Several weeks ago I stumbled upon an ad on craigslist.. which if you’ve used craigslist for anything you know it can be pretty hit or miss. I read an ad that stated that 2 students attending The Art Institute of Tennessee were looking for a band/artist so they could record a couple songs for their class project …at no cost! I thought to myself this sounds very promising- considering how much money was spent on my debut project, to get a couple songs done for free- sounded amazzzzing!!!! So I contacted the guy that posted the ad, and he said [...]
ps- I go on 1st.. the doors open at 8pm and I’ll start at 8:30!! see ya there!!
So I just received a very encouraging email from my old college professor- Dr. Koponen- here’s a part of it.. “Dr. Kenote lent me her copy, and I can only say I love every minute of it! Period. The entire project, from the smallest detail, reveals perfection.” For me that response is worth my college education (even though I’m still paying that off!) .. I feel so accomplished
well after 2 shows this week, I’m declaring myself a rock star..haha.. really just being silly ’bout that This week did give me a little glimpse of what life would be if I had this going on all the time. Right now, I’m so thankful for every opportunity that’s opened up for getting booked! It’s a challenge much bigger than what I expected.. but I think I’m getting the hang of it.. kinda.. sorta My musicians/bandmates have been beyond amazzzzzzzing. I’m so crazy blessed by them, I don’t know if I even have words to show my gratefulness. They are [...]

After reading this blog from my amazing friend Jenny- I realized we all have days where it seems like everything goes wrong! No one is exempt from this. Gosh don’t we all have days like this?! I know I do. Yesterday as I went from job 1, directly to job 2. My break was the 25 minute drive between them. When my head hit the pillow about 11pm.. I was thankful that I survived the day. Usually my lunchtime nap saves the day, but I couldn’t have been more in love with my bed last night. As I lay there- I asked God- [...]
hey hey! So in a recap kinda way- last year when I decided it was time to make a music video I was focusing on saving the $ for that and doing my best to find stable musicians to play my tunes so we could get some gigs booked. Whaaaaat a challenge it’s been- let me just tell you that coordinating the lives of 6 people (who do have a life outside of playing music with me!) and the availability of the rehearsal facility has been anything but easy. Not to much mention all the technical difficulties we’ve had…if I’m [...]
As I sit here listening to Bing Crosby sing “White Christmas” it makes me think of all the times I experienced those growing up in New Hampshire. What a ridiculous fun place to grow up, sledding and having a ski mountain 5 min from my house was pretty freakin’ awesome!! I literally can’t believe I’ll be celebrating 6 years in Nashville next month- unbelievable. Moving away was one of the easiest and yet most difficult decisions I’ve made as a young adult. Here’s how the conversation to myself would’ve went back then.. 2006 Kels #1: so I know you just [...]
I can’t believe it’s been 365 days since I released my album! Wow- that’s just craziness!!! This year has probably been a lot like yours- exhausting, financially trying, and a little crazy beautiful. As I do my best to step back to look at the big picture of what this year has brought me through and also what it’s meant to so many of you. I thought it seemed appropriate to make a book. A book to tell a story, a story that consists of what these songs helped you though. How they spoke to you, made you move, [...]
The next chapter of my music adventure is turning a page…and this picture pretty much says it all! I’m so looking forward to you sharing this evening with you!!!! ps- you can click the picture to make it bigger to see the details Thanks again to the amazing http://modmediallc.com/ team!
I’ve been thinking about music. Lots of music lately. What I love now. What I loved when I was younger. Driving in my car. Chilling in my room. Music that spoke to me then and still resonates with me now, yet in all different ways. Sometimes it was lyrical. Other times it was in creativity of the arrangement that I just fell in love. DC Talk Supernatural This album brings me back to being a teenager. Cause well I was one when it was released in 1999. When I hear it, I can mentally transport myself back into my 1996 [...]
